Introduction: we are not number 1
I think Americans need a new way of looking at health. Look where our current views on this subject have led us – we are the last of the 17 most industrialized countries in the world in all major health indicators. It’s hard to believe, but it’s true: we’re the last in terms of life expectancy; we have the highest rates of obesity, infant mortality, low birth weight, heart disease, diabetes, chronic lung disease, homicide rates, teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
Senior author of a study by the Institute of Medicine, funded by the National Institutes of Health, which identified the situation, noted that “Americans get sick, die earlier and get more injuries than people in any other country in the world. High income.” (This is a quote from the report.) He then added: “We were stunned by the trend towards a negative result – the scale of the shortage includes all ages, from babies to the elderly, both sexes, everyone. classes of society. If we do not act, life expectancy will become shorter and children will be sick more often than in other countries. “
Two ways to think about health
I think Americans are too passive about their health. Good health can be achieved and maintained only by conscious actions. These actions require planning and apprenticeship. For example, regular and vigorous exercise, nutrition so that it nourishes the body without causing problems, and other actions in a positive and active style.
Your level of health clearly depends on your lifestyle. Most of your health depends on whether you invest in your well-being or not. If you make little or no such investment, your health will depend on chance, genetics, the aging process and how quickly you get quality health care.
On the other hand, if you invest, seek, protect and promote an advanced state of well-being, the nature of your health condition will be radically different – and better.
Therefore, we must distinguish between these two types of health situation: a passive situation and an active situation.
Health in the current sense
WHO’s definition of health is unrealistic (no one, even the most well-being person, can enjoy “full physical, mental and social well-being,” at least not every day). Most think about health much less noble. Most people think they’re healthy when they’re not sick. It’s pathetic. This is tantamount to the absence of the need for immediate medical care. For the vast majority, this is a “good enough” idea of health. Such thinking is a self-fulfilling prophecy. This means that lack of good health is the best thing to hope for. It’s a static definition of health, and it needs to be changed and at least offer a different approach for comparison for Americans who want to contribute. It would be health.
I think we need health ideas that remind people of the important fact that a passive situation is not as effective, desirable, protects, or rewards how dynamic health is. We should all know that static health, which is the default setting for a normal existence and does not do anything special to improve health, can and should be improved and improved.
Using the term, as earned health, can remind people that health is more than just a disease. The term “newfound health” may indicate the availability of a higher level of well-being. This may remind everyone that health is at best more than a static condition. Health is a dynamic state; it improves with effort, worse if ignored.
The resulting health is a higher level of health. Acquired health is more ambitious and more consistent with a REALLY healthy lifestyle and lifestyle than the current standard of health as a non-disease.
Continuum of static/earned health
This continuum is another way to look at Dr. John Travis’s original and simple health model as a continuum with a ‘premature death’ in the far left corner of the continuum) and an ever-changing dynamic. welfare ” on the far right corner. “0” in the middle is a neutral point that may not be a disease.
By the way, Dr. Travis is steadily expanding his original model. You can read the latest version and learn more about Continuum here. Another concept that will be of interest to health enthusiasts is Dr. Travis’s Energy System.
Acquired health is not determined or supported by medical intervention. Thus, it affects static health, that is, health in the continuum from the center to the left edge of the continuum.
The path to TRUE well-being
To be healthier in a well-deserved way, we need to move to the right side of the continuum.
The inability to assess the different health conditions achieved by static electricity is one of the reasons why America can get so much health care without better health. After all, modern medicine is a beautiful thing, but there are two problems: people expect too much and too little from themselves.
Understanding the difference between static health and health can encourage people to be less passive – to realize the need and value of a REALLY healthy lifestyle.
Here is a fable that describes the limitations of medicine in improving health compared to the power of our own behavior.
Imagine a country where everyone has powerful luxury cars – they are almost worthless and they are easy to replace. In this mythical country, everyone enjoys free and unlimited medical care of the highest quality, as well as all the necessary medicines, and at every intersection there are highly qualified trauma teams. The fact is that the inhabitants of this mythical country can do whatever they want – there are no laws on the safety of cars. All exceed the speed limit, no one wears seat belts, there are no airbags, stop signs, traffic lights and traffic rules. And one more thing: the brakes have not yet been invented.
Interpretation of the fable
The greatest progress in a mythical society will not be achieved with the introduction of more doctors, hospitals, medicines or trauma. On the other hand, changes in driving habits and habits will make an important contribution to a healthier society.
